전남도해양수산과학원 민물고기연구소는지난 25일 순천시를 포함한 도내 7개 시·군에 은어 32만 마리를 방류한 것을 시작으로, 오는 9월까지 총 180만 마리의 수산종자를 방류할 계획이라고 밝혔다.

이번 방류 사업은 지역 특성에 적합한 우량 종자를 강과 하천에 공급함으로써 생태계의 건강성을 회복하는 데 목적이 있다. 방류 대상은 은어, 뱀장어, 동남참게, 쏘가리, 동자개 등 총 8개 품종이다.
