전남도는 올해 '섬 발전 사업'의 일환으로 여수, 완도, 신안 등 10개 시군에 위치한 102개 섬을 대상으로 총 1,353억 원 규모의 사업을 본격 추진한다고 밝혔다. 이번 사업은 단순한 시설 보수를 넘어 섬 주민의 삶의 질 향상과 외지 관광객의 접근성 제고를 통한 지역 경제 활력 제고에 방점을 두고 있다.

전남도는 섬 지역의 고질적인 불편을 해소하기 위해 사업 영역을 네 가지 핵심 분야로 세분화하여 체계적으로 지원할 방침이다.

주요 사업은 ▲방파제 보강과 물양장 설치, 마을안길 개설 등 어업기반시설 ▲연륙·연도교, 도선 건조, 여객선 대합실 신축 등 교통 여건 개선 ▲어류·해조류 가공 등 섬 특성을 반영한 소득사업 ▲주민 쉼터, 복지회관, 커뮤니티센터 등 문화·복지시설이다.
