(광주=브레이크뉴스) 이학수 기자=광주광역시 북구 각화동에 위치한 ‘광주 각화동 2호분’이 국비 지원을 통해 베일을 벗게 됐다.

광주시는 국가유산청이 주관하는 ‘매장유산 긴급 발굴조사 지원사업’에 각화동 2호분이 최종 선정되어 국비 1억 원을 확보했다고 3일 밝혔다.

이번 지원사업은 수해나 토사 유실, 유물 발견 등으로 훼손될 위험이 큰 매장유산의 보존을 위해 발굴조사 비용 전액을 국비로 지원하는 사업이다. 올해는 전국에서 총 6곳이 선정되었으며, 광주·전남 지역에서는 광주 각화동 2호분과 장성 백양사 지장암지가 명단에 이름을 올렸다.

각화동 2호분은 주변에서 쉽게 구할 수 있는 할석(깬돌)을 이용해 축조된 고분이다. 특히 5~6세기 무렵 광주와 전남 지역에서 주로 나타나는 ‘영산강식 석실’ 유형으로 분류되어 학계의 큰 관심을 받아왔다.
