As Gwangju Daum Integrated Care proved the feasibility of universal care services, interest from local governments and academic researchers across the country also increased.


Last year alone, there were 20 local governments that benchmarked Gwangju's care policies, and Jeju and Suwon have already started integrated care projects using the Gwangju model. This year, local governments such as Gangneung and Jinju are visiting Gwangju, and an on-site visit by a member of the National Economic Advisory Council under the President is scheduled for April.


Mainstream academic societies that exert influence on national policy, such as the Korean Society of Social Welfare and the Korean Society of Political Thought, also visited Gwangju to discuss care policies.


Gwangju City's efforts to awaken the public's responsibility for care became the driving force behind the enactment of the 'Local Care Integrated Support Act', which had been pending for three years without even passing the relevant committee. The ¡®Local Care Integrated Support Act¡¯, which legislates the administrative responsibility for care and establishes the basis for integrated support of medical care and care, is expected to bring about a groundbreaking change in national care policy.

On December 7 last year, it won the top prize at the International Urban Innovation Award hosted by the Union of Local Governments (UCLG), which has 240,000 cities around the world. It became the policy that attracted the most attention among the 332 policies from 61 countries submitted.


Judges from 11 countries highly evaluated Gwangju's innovative process of establishing an alternative care system through public-private cooperation and practical achievements in carrying out social responsibilities of care.

Gwangju Daum Integrated Care, now in its second year, aims for ¡®relationship care¡¯ beyond individual care. Village-centered activities are being promoted to help citizens who have lost social networks meet each other, restore a community where neighbors protect neighbors, and people protect each other, and create a new ¡®social family.¡¯


On the 27th, the 'Deullang Nallang Community Center' opened in Daein-dong, Dong-gu, followed by the 'Permanent Rental Apartment Resident Care Class' in Seo-gu, 'Village Care for Slow Learners' in Nam-gu, 'Health and Mental Care in Our Neighborhood' in Buk-gu, and 'Village Food Cafe' in Gwangsan-gu. In addition to activities in the base space, we also actively support the activities of residents who pair up with single-person households to check on their well-being and connect with their social networks.
