이번 사업은 그동안 구축된 관내 관광 인프라를 스토리텔링해 광주관광의 큰 틀에 엮어 녹여낼 수 있는 전문 가이드가 필요하다는 관광업계 현장의 애로사항을 반영해 추진됐다.

사업은 광주 관광에 특화된 스토리텔링에 능한 전문 관광가이드의 육성을 통해 광주를 찾는 국내외 관광객을 대상으로 광주만의 독특함을 느낄 수 있도록 보고, 느끼고, 체험할 수 있는 스토리텔링 펀(Fun) 광주 관광프로그램을 운영하는 방식으로 시행된다.

광주 특화 관광가이드 육성·지원사업은 크게 2개로 나눠 진행된다.

먼저 ‘광주 특화 스토리텔링 관광 프로그램 개발 지원’ 사업은 지역 여행업체와 관내 거주 관광가이드(국내여행안내사, 관광통역안내사 등)을 대상으로 광주관광 스토리텔링 역량강화와 네트워크 형성 기회 제공을 위한 심화교육을 실시하고 여행업체와 관광가이드 간 매칭을 통해 시범운영 관광상품 개발을 지원한다.

특히 관광 프로그램 홍보 등 현장 운영에 대한 제반 지원과 관광객 모객에 따른 관광가이드의 인건비를 지급한다.
