노인인구 비율이 전국에서 가장 높은 전남은 65세 이상 전국 치매노인 인구 99만 8천 명 가운데 5.6%(5만 6천 명)를 차지하고 있다. 치매 노인 유병률은 전국 평균 10.5%를 상회하는 12.2%에 이르는 등 지역의 선제적 치매 예방·관리 역할이 요구된다.
