도의회는 이날 오후 도의회 브리핑룸에서 차영수 의회운영위원장(강진, 더민주)이 대표로 발표한 성명서를통해 이같이 밝혔다.

이날 성명은 전남도의 국립의대 공모방식 선정 추진 발표 후 지역 간 과열 양상으로 치닫는 현 상황에서 전남의 응집력을 발휘해 의대 신설이 조속히 추진되기를 바라는 도민의 염원을 담은 것이다.

도의회는 “온 도민이 간절히 염원했던 전남 의대 신설이 마침내 확정되었지만,목포대와 순천대 간 과열된 유치 경쟁을 넘어 전남 동서지역 갈등으로까지 확대되는 현실에 안타까움과 우려를 표한다”고 밝혔다.

이어 “국립의대 신설은 도민의 힘을 결집해 30년 만에 이뤄낸 소중한 기회로 현 정부 임기 내 국립의대를 신설하는 것이 최우선 목표다”고 강조했다.

또 “지금과 같은 갈등과 대립이 장기화되면 꿩도 매도 놓치게 될 것”이라며, “지자체와 정치권, 대학이 하나된 목소리를 국립의대 신설이라는 큰 목표를 향해나아가야 한다”고 덧붙였다.

이에 “화합과 상생이라는 대승적 차원에서 도민의 평등한 의료기본권 확보를 위해 단일된 목소리를 내주기 바란다”고 호소했다.
