남구에 따르면 문화체육관광부는 지난 12일 오후 4시부터 국립중앙도서관 국제회의장에서 정부 관계자를 비롯해 유관 분야 인사 등 200명 가량이 참석한 가운데 ‘2024 도서관의 날 기념식’을 개최했다.

이번 행사는 도서관의 사회‧문화적 가치 확산 및 이용 촉진에 이바지한 행정기관과 유공자의 사기 진작을 위해 마련한 자리였다.

문화체육관광부는 매년 도서관 분야 정책 추진력 향상을 위해 작은도서관 운영 활성화 분야와 도서관 정책 혁신‧발전, 도서관 정보화 서비스, 도서관 다문화 서비스, 공공도서관 건립, 개관시간 연장 등 6개 분야의 우수 행정기관과 유공자에 대해 포상하고 있다.

특히 공정한 평가를 위해 전국의 광역 지방자치단체와 교육청, 도서관 단체 등에서 추천을 받은 뒤 공적 자료를 심사해 포상 수상기관 및 유공자를 선발하고 있다.

기념식에서 장관상을 받은 행정기관은 남구를 포함해 전국 3곳이며, 유공자는 18명이다.

남구는 작은도서관 운영 활성화 분야에서 포상 기관의 이름을 올렸다.

지난 2018년부터 2022년까지 매년 작은도서관 조성 사업과 관련한 예산을 확보해 공립 작은도서관 6곳을 조성하고, 3곳의 공립 작은도서관을 리모델링해 동네마다 촘촘한 독서 기반 시설을 구축한 공로였다.

또 전국 최초로 구청에서 운영하는 관내 직영 작은도서관 10곳 전체의 운영시간을 평일 야간까지 확대함과 동시에 토요일과 일요일에도 문을 개방해 평소 공공도서관 이용에 어려움을 겪던 직장인 및 학생 등에게도 도서관 이용의 기회를 제공한 부분도 호평받았다.
