(광주=브레이크뉴스) 이학수 기자=광주광역시의 미국 자매도시 샌안토니오시 대학생 16명이 광주시 초청으로 지난 25일부터 이틀간 광주를 찾아 양 도시의 우정을 다졌다.

이번 초청은 광주시가 자매도시와의 민간교류 확산을 위해 진행하고 있는 ‘풀뿌리사랑방’의 일환으로 추진됐다. 양 도시의 풀뿌리사랑방 회원들은 총 5회 화상회의를 통해 양 도시 문화를 소개하고 토론했다.

샌안토니오 대학생들은 5·18자유공원, 광주국악상설공연, 양림동 근대역사문화마을, 광주미디어아트센터, 국립아시아문화전당 등을 둘러보며 광주시의 역사와 문화에 대해 배우는 시간을 가졌다.

1982년 2월 자매도시 결연을 하고 40년간 돈독한 우의를 다져온 광주시와 샌안토니오시는 코로나19 상황에서도 화상으로 진행한 기아타이거즈 동영상 시구와 광주세계김치축제 참여 등 다양한 방법으로 교류를 이어왔다.

광주시는 이번 방문을 계기로 대학생 교류를 포함한 민간교류 차원의 방문 기회를 확대할 계획이다.
