Gwangyang Economic Office declares ¡®Economic Hub Leaping to Become a Base for Future Industry and Marine Tourism¡¯

Economic Agency, ambitious 2030 vision... The goal is to attract 40 trillion won in investment, attract 750 companies, and create 80,000 jobs.

(Break News Gwangju/Jeonnam) Reporter Haksu Lee = In celebration of the 20th anniversary of the opening of the Gwangyang Bay Area Free Economic Zone Authority (hereinafter referred to as the Gwangyang Free Economic Zone Authority), the agency declared a new vision, ¡®Economic hub that leaps forward as a base for future industries and marine tourism,¡¯ and sets its ambitions for 2030. I set a cool goal.

To this end, we will create an innovative growth ecosystem centered on high-tech and new industries with the goal of attracting 40 trillion won in investment, attracting 750 companies, and creating 80,000 jobs.

The Gwangyang Economic Office has made every effort to promote foreign investment and business attraction, revitalize the local economy, and strengthen the national economy, making it a core economic and tourism region in Jeollanam-do and Gyeongnam-do.

As a result of developing industrial complexes, finding potential domestic and foreign investors, and attracting companies in new growth industries, currently, 473 companies have realized investment of 25.833 trillion won and created 51,000 jobs.

Currently, 17 complexes, including 6 districts, including Gwangyang District, Yulchon District, and Shindeok District, and Yulchon Industrial Complex and Daesong Industrial Complex, with a total area of 57.08§´ across Yeosu-si, Suncheon-si, and Gwangyang-si in Jeollanam-do and Hadong-gun in Gyeongsangnam-do are being developed, approximately 86.6% of the planned amount. is showing results. It is more than twelve times the size of Yeouido, and the Gwangyang Economic Authority plans to invest a total of 16.2769 trillion won in development by 2030.

In particular, seven major industrial complexes, including Yulchon Industrial Complex 1 and Daesong Industrial Complex, have a total area of 24.98 million §³, with 7.53 million §³ of industrial land already completed and an additional 7.3 million §³ planned for development.

In addition, as demand for high-tech and new industries increases, including Yulchon Industrial Complex 1, where secondary battery companies are confirmed to move in, the Gwangyang Economic Office is speeding up the creation of industrial complexes such as Hwanggeum Industrial Complex Phase 2 and Haeryong Industrial Complex Phase 2-2. there is.

Sepung Industrial Complex plans to convert to public development and begin construction around July 24 after completing private development, and Haeryong Industrial Complex plans to begin construction after prompt compensation for the private development project land.

Yulchon Industrial Complex 2 aims to begin construction in the first half of 2026 after the Jeonnam Development Corporation analyzes the feasibility of the project.

We plan to strengthen the competitiveness of the industrial complex by expanding infrastructure, such as modernizing the water treatment plant and constructing industrial complex main roads, and in particular, the Gyeongdo access road is aimed at temporarily opening before the 2026 Yeosu Island Expo.

In addition, we are focusing on creating a pleasant residential environment by supplying an additional 7,000 households, including improving residential conditions in the Sindae hinterland complex and Sunwol High Park as settlement cities behind industrial complexes and creating an eco-friendly ecological complex.

With the rapid changes in the global economy and the changing internal and external economic conditions, the Gwangyang Economic Office's main industries are 'functional chemicals', 'green energy including secondary batteries and hydrogen industries', 'metals and material components', and 'logistics and transportation'. We are setting it as a field and looking for ways to attract and grow companies around it.

To this end, four major strategies were established: 'Expanding the attraction of high-tech and core strategic industries', 'Supplying industrial land in response to demand', 'Building a global marine tourism and residential city', and 'Supporting innovative growth of tenant companies', and ¡ã Integration of secondary batteries and main industries. , ¡ãNurturing new growth industries and leading smart ports, ¡ãConnecting districts in four major fields (building G Belt), ¡ãDeveloping industrial complexes to respond to investment demand, ¡ãCreating an investment environment conducive to business, ¡ãEstablishing a port hinterland complex, ¡ãCreating a marine tourism base on the south coast. A total of 12 core tasks were set, including ¡ãdevelopment of residential cities behind industrial complexes, ¡ãcreation of an educational and medical environment, ¡ãestablishment of a cooperation system between local, industrial, academic, and research institutes, ¡ãexpansion of support for innovative growth, and ¡ãregulation rationalization and strengthening of expertise. .

First, the strategy to attract and expand high-tech and core strategic industries focuses on establishing a secondary battery entire cycle ecosystem base in the Gwangyang Bay area, establishing a foundation for the local hydrogen industry, and establishing an aerospace industry ecosystem. In addition, we plan to strengthen regional connectivity by connecting four belts, including secondary battery materials, main industry ecosystem, K-smart port leadership, and new growth industry convergence.

In particular, the goal of secondary battery and main industry integration is to build a full-cycle secondary battery industrial cluster from raw material production to recycling, centered on secondary battery anchor companies in the Gwangyang Bay area.

We are working to attract a special zone for opportunity development in the secondary battery field to the Gwangyang Bay area, and plan to build an ESS (Energy Storage System) in Yulchon Industrial Complex 1 step by step by 2030 so that it can become a base industrial complex in the ESS field in the future.

Second, the demand response industrial land supply strategy will provide a better environment for companies by quickly responding to the demand of companies through additional supply of customized industrial land and strengthening and expanding the infrastructure of industrial complexes.

Third, the global marine tourism and residential city construction strategy is to create a new growth industrial base for ultra-wide marine leisure in the southern coastal area in the Gwangyang Bay Area Free Economic Zone, while developing it into a functional site for companies to build a residential city behind the industrial complex. In addition, we will improve the living environment of companies and employees by expanding educational and medical facilities to improve the quality of life of local residents.

The final strategy of ¡®supporting innovative growth of tenant companies¡¯ will build close cooperative relationships between local governments, industry, academia, and researchers and lead to innovative growth through customized support needed for companies.

In addition, we plan to strengthen the capabilities and expertise of Gwangyang Economic Office employees to actively support corporate activities and rationally improve regulations that hinder the growth of companies.

Based on the growth and achievements of the past 20 years, the Gwangyang Economic Authority is ready to move toward ambitious goals by 2030 under the newly declared vision of 'an economic hub that leaps forward as a base for future industry and marine tourism'.

These efforts will contribute to establishing the Gwangyang Bay Area Free Economic Zone as a global economic hub that creates an ecosystem and leads innovative growth, rather than a simple industrial center. In the future, the Gwangyang Economic Authority will continue to pursue innovation and growth for regional and national economic development and demonstrate leadership in the fields of future industries and marine tourism.
