전남도 주최, 전남문화재단 주관으로 개최한 이번 국제학술대회엔 명창환 전남도 행정부지사, 박우량 신안군수, 국외 4개국 주제발표자를 비롯한 국내외 석학 등 300여 명이 참석했다.

이들은 ‘역사문화권 정비 등에 관한 특별법’ 시행 이후 마한역사문화권의 성과를 공휴하고 향후 세계유산 등재 등 발전 방향을 모색했다.

권오영 서울대 교수의 ‘세계문화유산의 맥락에서 본 마한의 문화유산’ 기조발표를 시작으로 ‘역사문화권의 이해와 역사문화자원화’를 통해 마한역사문화권의 성과를 살펴보고, ‘가야 고분군 사례로 본 마한문화자원의 향후 과제’를 통해 동시대 문화권인 가야고분군 세계유산 등재가 마한에 주는 시사점을 논의했다.

국외 발표는 중국, 이탈리아, 영국, 호주 4개국의 유네스코 세계유산 등재 과정 및 사례발표로 진행됐다. 이들은 향후 마한문화유산의 도약을 위한 공감과 참여 확대의 필요성 등 다양한 방향성을 제시하고 성과를 공유했다.

이번 국제학술대회는 중국을 비롯한 일본, 동남아시아까지 교류했던 과거 마한의 모습을 확인할 수 있는 해상무역의 최신 연구 성과를 살펴보는 학술교류의 장이 됐다는 평가를 받았다.

명창환 전남도 행정부지사는 “이번 국제학술대회를 계기로 마한에 대한 활발한 연구가 계속돼 역사적 가치를 드높이길 기대한다”며 “전남도에서도 마한의 세계화를 위해 관심과 지원을 아끼지 않겠다”고 말했다.

전남도는 2012년부터 마한역사 가치 복원을 위해 마한유적 발굴·조사 및 국가사적 승격, 마한역사 정립 연구사업 등을 지속해서 추진하고 있다. 올해는 국립마한역사문화센터 유치, 마한역사문화권 역사문화환경정비육성사업 2개소(나주·해남) 공모 선정 등 눈에 띄는 성과를 보이고 있다.
