이개호 의원은 지난 12일 문화재청 국감에서 전라도천년사 편찬위원장을 맡은 전주대 이재운 명예교수와, 전라도천년사의 역사왜곡 문제를 지적한 시민단체 측 매림문화TV 이완영 대표를 증인·참고인으로 출석시켰다.

이개호 의원은 양 측의 의견청취에 앞서 “전라도민들의 자긍심 고취를 위해 제작·발간한 ‘전라도천년사’가 친일사관 논란으로 지역민의 자존심을 훼손하고 있다”며 3가지 문제를 지적했다.

이 의원은 전라도 천년사가 △우리 민족의 시원을 단군조선 BC 2333년임에도 BC 7~8세기로 격하한데다 △전라도의 여러 지명을 비정하면서 일본서기를 인용했으며 △전라도 해안지방을 중심으로 출토되는 유물에 대해 ‘야마토 왜’의 지배설과 연관 짓고 있다고 밝혔다.

전라도천년사에서는 전남 강진·해남을 ‘침미다례’, 구례·순천은 ‘사타’로 전북 남원과 장수를 ‘기문’과 ‘반파’로 각각 비정하는 등 일본서기에 언급된 지명을 인용한 바 있다.

이에 이개호 의원은 “일본서기를 인용한 지명 비정은 삭제가 마땅하지만 불가피하다면 역사왜곡을 주장하는 향토 사학계의 이설(異說)도 함께 병기돼야 한다. 다만 ‘임나일본부 설’을 암시하는 내용은 반드시 삭제돼야 한다”며 “해안지역의 마한 세력으로 추정되는 부분을 ‘야마토 왜’와 관련지어 표현에 부분에 대해서도 이설을 명기해야 한다”고 강조했다.

또한 이날 피감기관인 문화재청에 대해서도 “전라도천년사 문제에 대한 의견을 3개시도에 전달해야 한다”고 주문했다.
