(무안=브레이크뉴스) 이학수 기자=전남 작은학교 학생들의 발랄한 상상력이 한 권 책으로 출간돼 독자들과 만난다. 고양이와의 특별한 우정을 그린 이야기부터 가족 사랑의 메시지를 전하는 가슴 뭉클한 그림책 등 다양한 작품이 출간돼 눈길을 끈다.

여수 화양초등학교는 전교생이 매년 한 권의 책을 집필, 출간하는 ‘여수 학생작가학교’를 운영하며 학생들의 상상력과 창의력을 꽃피우고 있다.

‘2024 전남형 작은학교 특성화 모델학교’ 프로그램으로 추진된 ‘여수 학생작가학교’는 단순히 글쓰기를 배우는 것을 넘어, 학생들 각자의 목소리가 담긴 이야기로 세상과 소통하는 화양초만의 특색 교육활동이다.

올해 프로젝트에는 전교생 27명이 참여했으며, 학생들은 학교 밖 체험활동에서 창작 소재를 얻고, 국어와 미술 수업과 연계해 자신의 이야기를 그림책으로 완성했다. 학생들은 이 프로젝트를 통해 스케치, 채색, 스토리보드 구성 등 출판의 모든 과정을 직접 경험했다.

김다은 학생은 엄마의 아픈 눈을 치료하기 위해 모험을 떠나는 ‘뽀삐’의 이야기를 담은 책 ‘마법의 물약’을 통해 가족 사랑의 메시지를 전했다. 이 책에서는 태양왕, 번개여왕 등 신비로운 캐릭터들이 등장해 독자의 상상력을 자극한다​.
