이날 시의회를 통과한 조례안은 8개 공공기관을 4개로 통합하고, 3개 기관은 기능을 확대하는 등 기존 24개였던 공공기관을 20개로 감축시키는 내용이 주요 골자이다.

공공기관 구조혁신을 뒷받침할 조례안이 통과됨에 따라 강기정 시장의 공공기관 구조혁신을 위한 강한 개혁 드라이브가 탄력을 받게 됐다.

민선8기 공공기관 구조혁신은 시 산하 지방공사·공단(4), 출연기관(19), 기타기관(9) 등 총 32개 기관을 대상으로 실시한 조직진단 용역결과를 바탕으로, 공공기관의 경영 효율성과 시민 책임성 강화에 방점을 두고 추진됐다.
