김영록 전남도지사와 박완수 경남도지사는 18일 경남도청에서 두 도 간 첫 상생발전 협약식을 개최하고 남해안 개발, 우주항공, 관광·문화·체육, 기후환경, 농림 등 5개 분야 총 12개 협력과제를 공동 추진키로 했다.

공동 협력과제는 최근 중앙지방협력회의에서 전남도지사가 대통령께 직접 건의한 ▲남해안 종합개발청 신설을 비롯해 ▲남해안 우주항공 산업벨트 조성 ▲유엔기후변화협약당사국총회 남해안 남중권 공동 유치 ▲이순신 장군 승전지 순례길 프로젝트 추진 ▲이순신 축제 연계 개최 등이다.

또 ▲남해안 해양레저관광 루트 개발 ▲유망 청년작가 교류 전시회 ▲104회(전남), 105회(경남) 전국체육대회 성공 개최 ▲2023 순천만국제정원박람회 등 남해안 엑스포 상호협력 ▲2026 여수세계박람회 성공 개최 ▲소나무재선충병 협업 방제 ▲원예식량 작물 신품종 개발·육성도 포함됐다.

특히 이번 협약에서 두 지역 협력사업의 실질적 추진을 위해 전남도와 경남도가 함께하는 행정협의회 구성에 합의하고, 구체적 업무 범위와 조직 등에 대해서는 실무회의를 거쳐 발표하기로 결정했다.

박완수 경남지사는 “수도권과의 거리에 따라서 발전의 속도가 다르고, 수혜를 가장 적게 받은 지역이 전남과 경남”이라며 “수도권 집중에 대응하기 위해 양 지역이 공유하고 있는 남해안, 지리산 등 관광자원의 개발과 지역산업의 육성을 위해 뜻을 모아 나가겠다”고 말했다. 이어 “이번 협약이 경남과 전남이 남해안을 중심으로 지방시대를 선도하는 계기가 되기를 기대한다”고 덧붙였다.
