이날 토론회는 김영록 전남도지사와 신정훈 민주당 전남도당위원장, 서동용 국회의원 등 지역 국회의원, 전남도의원, 향우회, 농어민단체, 대학생 등 400여 명이 참석해 수도권 공공기관 2차 이전에 대한 높은 관심을 보여줬다.

김영록 지사는 개회사를 통해 “대한민국이 진정한 선진국이 되기 위해서는 산업화, 민주화를 이룬 것에 머물지 말고 지방화시대를 열어야 한다”며 “도민과 함께 농협중앙회․농협은행, 수협중앙회 등 핵심 공공기관을 유치해 젊은 세대에게 희망을 안겨주겠다”고 역설했다.
