전남도가 주최하고 (사)한국김산업연합회에서 주관하는 이번 품평회엔 고흥 20개 제품과 함께 장흥 1, 해남 23, 무안 4, 완도 20, 진도 10, 신안 2개 제품 등 7개 시군에서 총 80개 제품이 참가했다.

출품된 마른김은 색택, 식감, 향미 등 전문가의 정성적 평가와 단백질 함량, 이물질, 색도 등 과학적 성분 분석을 통한 정량적 평가를 하고 점수를 합산해 전남도 최고 품질의 마른김을 선정하게 된다.

특히 이번 품평회 선발위원으로 국립수산물품질관리원 등 전문가와 함께 한국소비자연맹에서도 참여해 다양한 의견을 수렴했다. 상금 규모는 2천800만 원 상당으로 마른김 생산자와 함께 물김 생산자에게도 시상금이 주어진다.

이번 전문가 품평회 평가 결과와 기계적 정량평가 결과를 합산해 품종별 총 10개의 우수 제품을 선발하며 추후 김의 날 행사에 시상할 계획이다.
