이날 기념식에는 영산강유역환경청, 전남도, 광주시, 광주기상청, 한국수자원공사 영․섬유역본부, 한국농어촌공사 전남지역본부, 한국환경공단 광주전남제주지역본부 등 물 관리 유관기관 담당자 200여 명이 함께했다.

올해 물의 날은 ‘함께 만드는 변화, 새로운 기회의 물결’을 주제로 정했다. 기후 위기에 따른 환경 변화가 가속화되는 가운데 물 관리 여건도 변화함에 따라 모든 주체가 함께 노력해야 한다는 취지를 담은 것이다.

안상현 전남도 환경산림국장은 기념식에서 “전남․광주는 지난해부터 이어진 장기 가뭄으로 효율적 물 관리가 절실한 상황”이라며 “변화하는 물 관리 여건에 맞춰 깨끗하고 지속 가능한 좋은 물 확보를 위해 적극적인 물 재이용 등의 노력이 필요하다”고 당부했다.
